Chapter One
Shikargah is the old court fashion of weaving pictures — elephants, deer, peacocks and songbirds moving through flowering trees, picked out thread by thread across the whole body of the cloth. Two sarees in the current collection carry a full shikargah jaal, and standing close to either one is like reading a page.
Chapter Two
Around the two hunting-scene pieces we have set their nearest kin: a deep magenta-purple paisley jaal and a gold so complete it turns the whole drape to light. Together they make the case for brocade as storytelling, not just ornament.
