Rich jewel tones like emerald green, royal purple, and deep red are popular for Diwali. Kanjivaram and Banarasi silks with gold zari work catch candlelight beautifully, making them ideal for festive celebrations.
Kanjivaram silk is woven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, and is known for its heavy body, contrasting borders, and temple motifs. Banarasi silk comes from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and features intricate brocade work with Persian-inspired designs.
Lighter festive silks (under ₹30,000) with subtle zari can work for semi-casual occasions. However, heavy zari sarees are best reserved for special celebrations to maintain their lustre and drape over time.
Air the saree for a few hours after wearing to release moisture. Fold it in soft muslin cloth, store flat in a cool dry place, and avoid plastic covers. Dry clean only when necessary.
